  • Cool Links

Below are some links to the pages of organizations I think are cool. These tend to be civic or charitable organizations that are doing cool things with bikes. If you're looking for links about gear or links more oriented to the individual cyclist then check out places like Bike Things or The Bicycle Exchange

Bike Works
Bike Works builds sustainable communities by educating youth and promoting bicycling. For more than a decade they’ve worked to educate and empower youth, and make bicycling accessible and affordable to the Seattle community.
Bamboosero
The Bamboosero idea is simple: Teach people in developing countries where bamboo is plentiful to build bike frames out of bamboo (a great frame material!) and connect these bike builders with bike buyers.
Village Bicycle Project
Village Bicycle Project is supported by hundreds of volunteers world wide who collect and ship bikes, and help distribute them on the ground in Africa
Maya Pedal
Maya Pedal is a Guatemalan NGO based in San Andrés Itzapa. We accept bikes donated from the USA and Canada which we either recondition to sell, or we use the components to build a range of "Bicimaquinas", (pedal powered machines).
Almost Gas Free
Almost Gass Free is a website dedicated to those who try their best to live a gas-free lifestyle through cycling

International Bicycle Fund
IBF promotes bicycle and other aspects of non-motorized transportation worldwide, especially in less developed areas, with a particular interest in Africa and South America. Areas of activities include: urban planning, rural mobility, economic development, safety education, environmental quality, energy conservation and responsible tourism. Sponsors small group bicycle tour programs worldwide.
Surface Transportation Policy Project
The goal of The Surface Transportation Policy Project is to ensure that transportation policy and investments help conserve energy, protect environmental and aesthetic quality, strengthen the economy, promote social equity, and make communities more livable.
1 World 2 Wheels
1 World 2 Wheels is a Trek-sponsored movement supported by those who believe the bicycle can be a vehicle for positive change.
People for Bikes
Peopleforbikes.org is dedicated to channeling that passion to improve the future of bicycling. Their goal is to gather a million names of support, to speak with one, powerful voice—to make bicycling safer, more convenient and appealing for everyone
United Bicycle Institute
Unlike the links above, UBI isn't a civic or charitable organization, but it is cool. It's a fantastic bike school with a rock star staff. If you want to learn how to build and care for bikes this is your place.
